Put the Pedal to the Metal.

Make a dazzling style statement this summer, with some fresh metallics in chromes and pastels.

We have seen the trend 'Metallic' come in and out of fashion over the past few years but it has mainly been during the colder months and party season. I am so pleased that this time around its a huge resort trend. I am however a girl who is drawn to shiny things like a magpie all year round. Summer is, in my eyes, the perfect time for some bold reflective pieces. Catwalk shows from around the globe brought us the opulent trend in many ways; pastel metallics, brocade metallics and textured metallics. Pieces came in a range of colours from classic metal hues to shimmering aqua blue and pink. Styles were playful and futuristic.

   Burberry Posurm, SS13.

   DKNY, SS13.

I went to watch the beautiful and romantic Great Gatsby last week. The movie was the most sensational piece of imagery I have seen in a long time. The visual aesthetic of the film was so gorgeous. (The jury is however still out on Leos bizarre accent.) I really feel the that soul of the 1920s has been picked up by the designers with this trend. The best designers would have been well aware of the films release date this summer. Rather than transporting us back in time with yet another influx of flapper inspired pieces, they have boxed clever and ran with a futuristic twist on the trend. This goes hand in hand with Lurhman's genius of offsetting his period based story with modern music throughout. Inspired by popular culture, transfusing modern pieces with the spirit of the prohibition is very clever indeed. Bravo!

Metallic pieces are available in most high street stores and online. I will blog a round up of the best high street pieces later in the week. But my advice is go and indulge right now, and get ready to shine like a diamond throughout the summer months.

Beyond being 'on trend' metallics have a lasting allure....the promise of magic or something precious.

White Out!

Wear head to toe white for the perfect 'no nonsense' Summer Look.

One of the most unmissable colour trends this year comes in the form of a 'White Out.' Keep it clean, with crisp and sleek white separates this season. This trend is a must, communicating a super cool attitude, whatever the occasion. It's not all pure and simple though, the pieces come in almost every form and fabric. There is so much to choose from, including technical cottons, romantic lace and broderie anglaise. Influenced by designers such as Victoria Beckham, Jil Stuart and Jil Sander, wearing all white makes a bold statement and ensures that you will stand out in a crowd.

I Wish We All Could be Californian Girls!

We all want to be as cool as a coachella girl.

The sun is shining and the temperatures are soaring. A perfect day for some flowery fashion inspiration from the best dressed at this years Coachella festival.... The festival may be old news but the funkiest, coolest and quirkiest dressed Californian festival go-ers are set to be going viral all summer long on all the best blogs and trend spotting pages. After all in the words of Katy Perry 'California girls are unforgettable.....' These girls are just too cool. A huge mixture of tropical florals, mega tassels, circle sunnies, flashes of pastel, head wreaths, retro cuts, contemporary prints and Daisy-Dukes (those are the hotter than the sun it's self, denim hot pants which we all need to own at least one pair of). The styling is well considered yet it communicates as carefree. A styling skill any hipster miss must possess. Any festival girl knows the style motto for an arts and music festival is 'Mix it up, keep it cool and make a statement.' ......Whilst also remaining unique. Not much to remember then? Don't worry if it sounds confusing...just take some summer styling tips from the following fine, fresh and fierce East Coast beauties.

There's a reason why people write songs about Californian girls.....

From time to time we all really want to look like a girly girl and this season is the perfect opportunity to embrace this look.

There are several different ways of  wearing this seasons freshest prints. Go all peace and love and channel Sienna Miller’s classic bohemian look. Floor length floral pieces can be teamed with head wreaths and a staple denim jacket to keep off that evening chill.

The look isn’t only for the wallflower and girliest of the younger generation. For the more mature lady teaming an elegant floral dress with a chunky leather satchel, brings the look bang up to date.  And if your looking for more of a statement piece clash a bolder printed blazer with a simple floaty dress and colourful heels.

Follow my flowery themed blogs this week for all the floral must haves including the hottest accessories and style sufficient shoes to go with your staple summer trend.

"Living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower."

Peace out.

The Fashionable Life Of.......The Fashion Columnist.

Hi Guys and dolls and welcome to my new fashion blog, The Fashion Column. After having recently completed my fashion internship, where I had the chance to embark on some fashion journalism, I felt inspired to launch a new blog. I really enjoyed applying all my catwalk and styling knowledge and interest to a high street column. I also love to write and also to source beautiful fashion imagery. Via this blog I shall be writing mainly about high street trends, collaborating with local online and offline retailers and pointing you in the right direction to the coolest on trend pieces. This blog is going to be ran more like a regular column than my other personal blog, thefashionablelifeof.blogspot, which includes my creative inspiration and image making work. Both will run side by side but this blog will be solely based upon fashion. I hope you will all enjoy some regular trend updates....

The trends have landed....from flower power to holographic, sports luxe to samurai chic. The SS13 items have arrived on the high street. The shops are filled with a multitude of styles, colours, fabrics, prints and cuts. Well that was a bit of a mouthful..... But seriously there is so much to choose from, it could even become quite overwhelming for those on a budget or those that are unsure as to what to wear or how to style a trend. Im hoping my column will help refine the trends and highlight the key pieces and also advise you guys how to carry the looks off to a tee.... The fashion industry is providing us with more trends than we have ever seen in one season before. Therefore there is definitely a trend for everyone this season all inspired by the designers at the top.
